Paul H. Roberts was awarded the 1999 John Adam Fleming Medal by the American Geophysical Union at the Honors Ceremony in San Francisco on December 15th 1999 "for his outstanding contributions to process of the core and its dynamo." The John Adam Fleming Medal is awarded annually by the American Geophysical Union "for original research and technical leadership in geomagnetism, atmospheric electricity, aeronomy, and related sciences."
