Teacher Continuing Education
The Curtis Center aims to increase the quality of pre-collegiate mathematics activity by providing effective opportunities for K-12 teachers to deepen their understanding of the mathematics they teach, extend their knowledge of mathematics, and learn how to apply their mathematical knowledge to the work of teaching. To this end we support:

Curtis Center Mathematics and Teaching Conference: March 6, 2010
We enthusiastically invite you to attend the fourth-annual UCLA Mathematics Department's Philip C. Curtis Jr. Center for Mathematics and Teaching Conference on March 6, 2010! The conference is composed of a keynote talk and breakout sessions in three areas: Mathematics for Mathematics Teachers, Strategies for the Effective Instruction of Mathematics, and Mathematics Education Research and/or Recommendations. The keynote talk will be given by Dana Center's Uri Treisman. In addition, an outstanding group of speakers have agreed to present in the breakout sessions. We believe the day will be thought provoking and worthwhile for mathematics teachers, mathematics teacher leaders, mathematics education researchers, and mathematicians alike and hope to see you there!

UCLA MCPT The Mathematics Content Program for Teachers and Students
MCPT offers authorization programs for teachers who wish to earn authorizations to teach mathematics through grade 9.  Their 8-course program is the only comprehensive program approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for supplementary authorization in mathematics, and their 12-course program is approved for subject matter authorization.  Each four-unit course generally meet once a week for 10 weeks at locations in the greater Los Angeles area.  MCPT also provides mathematics professional development to schools and districts.  For more information, please visit www.math.ucla.edu/mcpt.

MDTP The UCLA Site of the Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project
MDTP is an outreach project of the CSU and UC Mathematics Departments that develops, distributes, scores, and reports the results of tests that measure student readiness for mathematics courses ranging from Pre-algebra to Calculus. Diagnosing a student's mathematical strengths and weaknesses can help teachers identify topics and skills that need more attention in courses and can help students focus on areas needing review to increase their chance of success in those courses.

MDTP aims to help California's teachers better prepare students for further study in mathematics, identify topics and skills needed for success in mathematics, and bring faculty from secondary schools, colleges, and both university systems together for cooperative discussions of curricular issues.

UCLA California Teach
The Executive Offices of the California Mathematics Projects
The California Mathematics Project consists of 19 regional sites located at college and university campuses throughout the state. Each of these regional sites designs programs that meet the unique needs of schools and teachers in their region. Programs may include: intensive institute models, teacher leadership institutes, year-round workshops targeted on a specific mathematical topic, formal partnerships (or contracted services) with schools and/or districts, and programs aimed at specific school constituencies (e.g. students, aides, administrators, parents).

Ultimately, the goal of the CMP is to enhance the quality of California’s K-12 mathematics education by increasing teachers’ mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, and by supporting and developing leadership skills.
