I'm posting this to VOH since it's relevant to Friday's homework...

The last part of Lemma 4(e) should be "q > r" rather than "q < r".

Here's a counterexample to the lemma as written:

Let x = 1/2,

q = 2,

and r = 5.

Note x < 1 and q < r,

but x^q = 1/4, which is not less than x^r = 1/32.
