Instructor: Christoph Thiele, MS 5634, (thiele@math.ucla.edu)
Lectures: MWF 9.00-9.55, at MS 6627 (note the change)
Sections: T 9-9.50, at MS 6627 (note the change)
Office hours: MWF 10-11. I am always happy to discuss Math or other relevant issues, but not so good at sitting in an empty office during office hours waiting for students. If you want to meet MWF 10-11, it is adviseable you alert me to that right after the lecture. If you have a lecture MWF 10-11, please see me F 1-2. If you can't make it either time, let me know and we will arrange other meeting times.
TA: Jason Tedor jtedor@math.ucla.edu
Textbook: We will not be following a specific textbook. A classic textbook is Ahlfors, Complex Analysis, but it is challenging to read. Stein/Shakartchi "Complex Analysis" is smoother reading. Both books ofcourse have material beyond what we do in the course. Lecture notes are available here.
Homework:
assignments 1
assignments 2
assignments 3
assignments 4
assignments 5
assignments 6
assignments 7
assignments 8
assignments 9
Homework will be collected every Thursday
in section meetings, starting on Thursday, April 13.
There will be nine assignments posted on the web.
Homework is an integral part of the course, it is meant to be
challenging and time consuming.
Examinations: There will be a final exam Monday June 12, 11.30-2.30. As this course is part of the preparation for the Real/Complex Qualifying exam, this exam is meant as a practice for the complex analysis part of the qualifying exam. Vice versa, past (available thorugh the Graduate Advisor) and current qualifying exams are a great preparation for the final exam of this course. No textbooks or other material is allowed in the exam.
Grading: The final grade is based on homework and the final examination, 50% each.
