Problem Solving Techniques

There will be two parallel sessions on this Sunday. Please come to MS5200 for the contest prizes ceremony; one of the two groups will later move to MS6627.

• Grades 8 and below: AMC 8 prep by William Fitz-Gibbon;
• Grades 9 and above: Inequalities in Geometry by O. Radko;

After introducing the Method of Mathematical Induction, we will be solving a variety of problems using MMI. The problems will be from different areas of mathematics and of various levels of difficulty.

Some fundamental strategies for counting will be covered while working through a set of problems with various levels of difficulty.

This will be a preparation session for the American Mathematics Competition (AMC 10 and AMC 12). We will have a sample test at the end of the session.

We will go over the more difficult problems from AMC 10/12 date \"A\", and solve similar problems. We will also start preparing for AIME.
